The one through line I always enjoyed and still sometimes find ways to get back is lone wolfing. Back in the day I found I enjoyed sneaking into unexpected places and ambushing enemy groups, stacking bodies, then disappearing before they know whats going on. My favorite variant of this would be sneaking between two enemy units, firing in both directions and create the most confusing set of blue on blue imaginable. This worked in John Lu events, where I managed to bottleneck and entire platoon for around 20 minutes (only ran out of ammo), Vietnam VC roles (so much death), and eventually smaller unit formations, like FAST or Sniper teams.
I spent a great deal of time being a SAW gunner when we started ending up in squads, our propensity from 2007-2010 to run drum mags on AKs had led me to buying a first generation A&K M60 out of the trunk at a gas station in Bridgewater. Named after Cartmans super hero alter ego "The Coon" and emblazoned as such, I spent the next few years as a dedicated SAW, including when I CO'ed COFOR at Seasonal Violence where we managed to get a new rule made that CO's COULDNT lone wolf. I still do sometimes man a SAW, but its generally now mounted on the back of my gun truck.
The other role that connects a bit with my through line is being on Sniper teams. A few years back Brickman lent me his silenced VSR10 HPA rip, and although a bit finicky, she truly can reach out and touch anyone at extreme range. I was immediately in love with causing chaos behind enemy lines, removing VIPs and in general being a nuisance. I now have my own bolty built, but sadly have yet to find a chance to field it, hopefully someday, as I really do enjoy the art.
