Something I was thinking about today was just how many different roles I have taken on in the past 20 years, what was different about each of them, what connected them, and what I still wanna do someday.

But I’m not sure if I have a favourite. I have to think about it more, but I was curious if anyone had thoughts on their roles and what they’ve done?

Examples could be something as simple as saw gunner, or more complex things like civilian rioter, or monster.

I pride myself on being at least serviceable in just about any role, but unless I'm roleplaying or in a command position, I think I belong with a SAW in my hands

While I technically have the equipment for every roll, I usually play medic. I know darn well my teammates are more effective on the field than I am, and I like seeing everyone go ham so a cheeky revive here and there works out. Used to be super easy to get real fight changing revives at old UBG by just crawling through the thorn brush and whatever else low laying snarly junk was around. I actually lost my G36 for 30 minutes after leaving it on a tree to crawl easier. Good memories sliding around in the mud at Zulu as well, actually slipped past the guys once and couldn't stand so I crawled my way up hill for bring them online.

My health's kind of taken a nosedive since then. I can't move all that well anymore, even when I was a couple pants sizes smaller for a bit. So it's a bit slower paced medic gameplay but I don't mind. I've had the same medic patch for every game, a gift from my buddy Tarryn P. They don't play anymore, so it's kinda like the homie whose not there but still kind of there.

I enjoy firing an RPK until the motor burns out or I run out of BBs tbh

The one through line I always enjoyed and still sometimes find ways to get back is lone wolfing. Back in the day I found I enjoyed sneaking into unexpected places and ambushing enemy groups, stacking bodies, then disappearing before they know whats going on. My favorite variant of this would be sneaking between two enemy units, firing in both directions and create the most confusing set of blue on blue imaginable. This worked in John Lu events, where I managed to bottleneck and entire platoon for around 20 minutes (only ran out of ammo), Vietnam VC roles (so much death), and eventually smaller unit formations, like FAST or Sniper teams.

I spent a great deal of time being a SAW gunner when we started ending up in squads, our propensity from 2007-2010 to run drum mags on AKs had led me to buying a first generation A&K M60 out of the trunk at a gas station in Bridgewater. Named after Cartmans super hero alter ego "The Coon" and emblazoned as such, I spent the next few years as a dedicated SAW, including when I CO'ed COFOR at Seasonal Violence where we managed to get a new rule made that CO's COULDNT lone wolf. I still do sometimes man a SAW, but its generally now mounted on the back of my gun truck.

The other role that connects a bit with my through line is being on Sniper teams. A few years back Brickman lent me his silenced VSR10 HPA rip, and although a bit finicky, she truly can reach out and touch anyone at extreme range. I was immediately in love with causing chaos behind enemy lines, removing VIPs and in general being a nuisance. I now have my own bolty built, but sadly have yet to find a chance to field it, hopefully someday, as I really do enjoy the art.
